Two weeks ago, I was invited onto a BBC radio station to bang the drum for large scale industrial field based solar farms. Now those of you that know me also know that I’m a firm believer that fields are for food. Sadly, lack of government incentives or innovative policy to incentivise commercial rooftop solar wider adoption has forced us into this situation where fields full of solar are now necessary as we race towards net zero and beyond.
The planet is heating up like there is no tomorrow and for some, sadly that will be the reality . So to that end, we have been working furiously in the background to bring you these latest incentives that have been developed by working in collaboration with other members of The Solar Nation Assured Installer Network, of which we are a proud founding member.
Commercial battery storage has been around for many years but with the revolution in battery technology, the prices have reduced dramatically whilst capacity has increased substantially.
We can now install a commercial battery container with 215kWh capacity, which is as much energy as the average home uses in 2 to 3 weeks.
Unlike solar systems, which are designed and priced to suit individual demands, batteries are ‘out of a box’ and landed in the UK ready for a two to three day installation.
Here’s a price breakdown of various size batteries, with inverter sizes and battery capacity.
50kW Inverter / 100kWh usable energy £47,500
50kW Inverter / 158kWh usable energy £53,000
100kW Inverter / 160kWh usable energy £57,500
100kW Inverter / 215kWh usable energy £65,000
All prices are including delivery and installation, excluding VAT
The 50kW inverter battery systems are ideal for existing solar systems up to 50kw in size.
The 100kW inverters are suited for all existing systems over 100kW.
The reason we can deliver these extremely low costs is a simple one. The Solar Shed Ltd is one of the founding members of The Solar Nation Assured Installer Network. A collaboration of 50 or so of the UK’s longest running, most experienced, solar companies who work together for the betterment of the industry. It raises standards and lowers costs as we can purchase in bulk with simplified supplied chains.
But before the battery, there is still over 90% of the UK large roof space uncovered. Had policy from central government targeted this market, we wouldn’t be racing ahead with field based solar. And sadly, not every large roof owner can afford the initial outlay. Being asset rich doesn’t necessarily equate to being cash rich. For this reason, we have teamed up other Solar Nation Members and can now bring you the latest in Power Purchase Agreements.
A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is an arrangement in which a third-party developer installs, owns, and operates an energy system on a customer’s property. The customer then purchases the system’s electric output for a predetermined period.
In simple terms, if you are paying 50p/kwh at your commercial premises, you can have a solar system and if criteria was met, a solar and battery storage system installed totally free of charge. You then buy the energy that comes in from the solar system at a much reduced rate, typically between 14p/kWh and 17p/Kwh which will be indexed linked to an annual increase of 2.5% (terms vary)
This allows the commercial rooftop owner to benefit from a green energy source and save money, safe in the knowledge that you know exactly what your energy costs will be for the next 10, 15 or even 20 years.
And it costs absolutely nothing to install.
For businesses that can not finance a solar system themselves but are looking to green up their supply chain, demonstrate their commitment to Net Zero whilst adding resiliance the Nations energy supply, a Solar PPA is for you.
We are arranging PPA’s at present and have immediate access to £380,000,000 of funding, so no matter the size and scale of your system, we can deliver.
