Long gone are the memories as a child when the only ‘climate’ related news stories we would hear about were the end of summer ‘Hollywood Hills’ fires.
Every August, just before going back to school, we’d see news in the UK of the fires threatening to burn an A-Listers house, whilst the actor home-owner probably watched it from the private plane jetting him or her to their New York Penthouse to get away from it.
Today, we hear news that the North Pole has just gone 24hrs where the temperature did not drop below zero.
Greenland, is green again.
We are seeing Hurricanes and named storms earlier in the year. Bigger, slower moving storms. More of them, more often.
It’s the sickest feeling in the world to say that we were right about this ‘climate thing’.
We knew what was happing. We saw it. We listened to the science. We started to do things different, we reduced, we recycled, we re-used and repaired. We even stopped our old life to set up a solar company, we opened our doors to strangers to show them, there is another way. And for what?
A succession of self servants. In power to protect the interests of those who seek to maximise their profits and protect self interests whilst people burn in their own homes or are forced to migrate because there is no water, no food and a baron landscape, de forested with an encroaching desert.
Elsewhere, houses and hotels are being washed away down rivers that have turned into torrents, eroding all alongside and before it. In Alaska, in Central Europe and in Asia.
2023. The year they finally woke up. And for many, it was too late. For the scorched earth, it is too late.
And yet there is hope.
Those in my network and circle know what to do. We all do it on a daily basis. 24/7/365 and many of us have done for decades and whilst it may not have been enough to stop what we bare witness to today, we’ve started something that has reached a tipping point and can not be stopped.
We can all point our fingers at those we believe are responsible, but in truth, we are all responsible. We listened to politicians. We listened to the news and read the papers. And we believed them, until the evidence presented itself and what we thought was fact, turned into fiction. And now we know.
And yet, we have the solutions, we know what needs to be done, what more evidence do we need to see or witness for them to change direction before it’s too late for so many people and communities.?
They know their days are numbered. And we know ours are only just beginning.
History will judge us all. Our legacies will be of our own making and it’s time for us to step it up a gear and take solar and other renewables to the people like never before.
And for those that say ‘I am only one person, what difference can I make’
Our grandfathers and their fathers who landed on beaches in France in the 40’s certainly made a difference and so can you.
