The Lynn News Newspaper column

This was published in The Lynn News a couple of weeks ago.

Sadly, our last column in what has been our favourite local newspaper for many a year.

=============================================================

In life,  all good things come to an end and the same is true of this column.  Through this column, The Lynn News has given our little family business a real voice in the community in recent years . A voice where we have been able to educate, inform and hopefully on occasion inspire readers to do the right thing with regards to renewable energy and other technologies.

We have been able to correct the mis-information many of you will read in national newspapers and put a bit of localism into the green tech industries by highlighting what we have on our doorstep with regards to solar, wind and tidal energy potential.

But as the Lynn News changes, so must our business and this is the last column you’ll see from us.  So instead of harping on about what we do and how we’re going to change the world, one roof at a time,  we’ll use this column to say thank you.

Thank you first and foremost to The Lynn News for affording the space. For allowing us to engage with the local community in the manner that has helped us get our message out and the reasons why we started our business up 15 yrs ago.

Thanks to the readers who take on board the information we have provided and acted on it.  Many of whom have come to us for their renewable tech to make changes in their own lives and get rid of the lion’s share of their grid dependency.

There really is no greater pleasure than being able to educate and explain to people not only the reasons why we have to embrace renewable tech, but also seeing the results once the tech is installed and hearing about how people are spending just a few pence a day on energy or fuel for the car because of something we have been able to provide.

Thank you to those who oppose some of what we say and argue our content through the letters page. It’s a good argument to have in public and to be honest, even the letters page helps our company create further awareness of the reasons why we must change course with regards to energy and climate change.

Through this column, we have met some great people and been able to engage in a way not many companies do which can be a real risk considering some of the things we say with regards to the politics of energy.  But we have stayed true to our word and call out the mis-information we hear from the political classes.  And as I have a blog on the website,  trust me when I say we won’t be changing tact or direction.

It was about 10 yrs ago, through this paper when I first said that I believe that Kings’ Lynn will be the greenest town of its size in England and I have no idea if we’re there or even close to it, but believe me when I say we will not stop until that goal is reached.

So thank you. Thank you for the space afforded, thank you for the support you the readers have given and at the end of the day, thank you for the business that has come our way.

As a business we have gone from strength to strength in recent years.  So busy at times we had close down all lines of enquiry due to demand and supply chain issues that have been well documented in recent months.  But we have come through all that and stronger for it.  With new ranges of products and advancement of technologies on offer, coupled with a concerned and willing community, I genuinely do believe we have the solutions to tackle humanities greatest fight.

Here in West Norfolk,  we live on the front line with regards to climate change and just because this column will be no more, doesn’t mean we’re going anywhere so look forward to hearing from you as you make your our way through the transition to a cleaner, greener world for all our tomorrows.

Finally, if anyone had told me 15 yrs ago when we first thought about running a business from what is essentially a shed, at the bottom of the garden and from there we would help change the world, I would have laughed at them.  But here we are at the centre of what’s referred to in our industry as the #SolarNation HQ with a National Network of long standing trusted installers ready to take to the rooftops to make the changes we all want to see.

And that’s to a cleaner, greener and more affordable world.

#SolarLove in the #SolarNation

So that marks the end of another chapter in The Solar Shed Ltd education and awareness campaigns. Two years of writing a monthly column for the local environment.

It’s not all bad news though, as of now, I’m a new regular opinion columnist for The Eastern Daily Press, the UK’s biggest regional, award winning newspaper.

First column here….
