Wow, what a week. 60 Householders and businesses over three zoom meetings. 4 guest speakers and plenty of knowledge shared. Hopefully, if all 60 attendees just switched off one appliance left on standby and saved a penny an hour, that would be £5256 of electricity we have all just saved.
That’s just in one year by switching something we don’t use off.
There are 27,000,000 homes in the UK, imagine the carbon saved JUST by switching ‘stuff’ off.
These meetings came about because, like many businesses, we have a bit of time on our hands at present. Not allowed out to market the business or do the face to face stuff, so where we can, we have moved online.
Zoom is good, more personal than email or a call, but it’s still not the same as ‘speaking’ to someone face to face.
I suppose this is something we’ll all have to get used to in time, the way we communicate. And if the truth be told, where we do work smarter, such as zoom meetings and the like, we are actually saving energy, money and even more pollution being generated.
Take our meetings this week with Klimate Concern. 60 people in total, the last time we held these meetings it was over in Swaffham at the Green Britain Centre until it closed. If all 60 attendees this week had travelled an average of 40 miles round trip to Swaffham, we have saved 2400 miles worth of driving, fuel, time, congestion, wear and tear, pollution etc.
Just by not going out and instead, gathering in this way, we are contributing to reversing the effects of what we have done previously with regards to carbon and the ‘climate stuff’ that drives us.
The World sure is changing fast, and it needs too. Not sure about the direction yet, but if we cut through the bullshit from lying politicians and biased media, it’s actually a bright future we have. Being forced to think about the things that are important to us over the last year has made most of us appreciate what we have and create a desire to protect it.
If only Humanity could throw it’s arms around the Planet like the NHS has wrapped itself around and protected our Country, the World would be a much better place.
