It’s hot.
Hotter than any of us have ever known. In virtually every major city, in Western Europe this summer, temperatures are at a high never witnessed before.
And whilst many will head to the beaches and bask in it, many more will be dropping to the floor as the heat literally exhausts them. With the pollution levels in cities adding to the mix, it’s a recipe for disaster. The costs to the health service, the emergency services and the strain it puts on our infrastructure is unfathomable and yet many will just see this as a heat wave and deny outright the science that is now a living reality.
Back in 2008, when i started in this industry, the world was just about to crash, financially speaking. The Oil wars were at their peak, Beijing was choking on it’s own air in readiness for the Olympics and we were pumping oil like there was no tomorrow.
We were telling people then, the reasons why we chose solar and the reasons we thought they should as well. It really is simple. The more solar we put up, the quicker the chance of ending the Oil war and the burning of less fossil fuels, which is the significant factor in the changed climate. The more solar we put up, the less chance of being screwed over by the energy companies that feed the oil machine that dictates the war efforts and for what?
So we can all fill up for £1.45p a ltr and make things that we can throw away? The question i should be asking is ‘What sort of Planet are we on?’
It’s certainly not the one i want to live on. The seas and rivers are almost as dirty as our political masters and after watching the latest episode of ‘Westminster- let’s eat ourselves inside out’ i really see no end soon.
We believe that solar energy, the one single universal and unifying energy source, IS the answer to the Worlds problems.
When we generate our own energy, we are reducing the demand from the machine that is raping the very planet we occupy AND feeding off of every person that inhabits it.
Every time i drive past a petrol station in our Electric Vehicle i smile in the knowledge that the energy our car uses has, for the most part, been charged via the sun.
Imagine running a bath or shower and being bathed in liquid sunshine. Water, an abundance of hot water heated by the sun, day after day after day after day.
As sure as sunrise, solar is the answer to so many of the Worlds problems. The biggest threat to our National Energy Security is actually that those in power know this. For all the rhetoric, for all the spin and for all the weasley words we hear from disingenuous politicians, the proof will be in the pudding.
Solar, in the UK today, is a mainstream industry thanks to various schemes over the last decade. Whilst a smaller industry than when peaking under the old Labour Feed in Tariff Scheme that was ruthlessly culled in early 2012, we have survived as much as any industry has had thrown at them and continue to innovate as we grow. The challenges facing the World’s climate are directly connected to human behaviour. We drive cars, we heat homes and we buy crap to throw away and the common denominators are oil or gas. So we will keep going to war and keep feeding those who feed off of us until we stop.
Breaking the cycle we have been conditioned to is going to be painful, much more painful than the political mess we’re in, truly painful for those who can not afford the switch. Whilst solar is right for everybody, it’s not right for everyone pockets right now, but the more we generate as a nation the better our lives will get due to the reduced need to go to war which is where we all end up spending more. And with what we are seeing right now, the UK is being played straight into a conflict in the Gulf, this time with a depleted Navy, no aircraft for it’s carriers and an under resourced military in general.
For oil. On a ship. Owned by someone.
Solar can and WILL provide a peaceful planet, and abundant planet, one where we can all share the sun. We are all brothers and sisters under the same sun so it makes sense to share it.
I’m hard pressed to think there maybe someone out there who can change my mind, but if you’re not yet convinced solar is the answer, maybe this will help.
Since April 1st this year, we have spent £56 on fuel to run the house, workshop and car. (Aug 13th 2019)
£56.
